It was just less than one year ago Suzuki was striving to sell over 2 000 vehicles in one month. Now for September 2021, this Auto Manufacturer sold 3 134 units and came the third top-selling car brand in SA behind Toyota and Volkswagen.

One of the companies most popular models is the Jimny which has accumulated growing fan-base with demand continuing as time goes on. The fourth generation Jimny was introduced to SA in 2018 and after an initial slow start due to the availability of product, the model has sold over 5 000 units which is already more than half of the total previous generation units sold at 9,200 and that shape was on sale for over a decade.

The good news is the Jimny is being built in its Gurgaon plant in India and after assembly from 100% Japanese-sourced parts and components they will be delivered to the Southern Hemisphere and the Caribbean market.

This will help reduced the ever-growing waiting list for this global icon.

When first launched the Jimny fourth Generation created a massive demand helped by its proven off-road credentials and winning the World Urban Car of the tear award. This resulted in customers waiting for two years to receive a new Suzuki Jimny. The Gurgaon plant is the third largest manufacturing facility in Suzuki’s global network accounting for the manufacture of 700 000 vehicles out of a total 2.25 million produced in India.

In India Suzuki accounts for 51% of the total market and builds the following models for local consumption and for export, Baleno, Starlet, Vitara, Urban Cruiser, Ertiga, Rumion Swift and Ignis.

For the South African market Suzuki have added the GL models. The 1.5GL and 1.5Gl automatic will now join the range. The difference over the GA model includes

Electric Windows

Electric Mirrors

Alloy Wheels

Steering wheel auto controls

Bluetooth

Remote central locking

4-year/60 000 km service plan

The range topping GLX model features

Auto LED Headlamps

Auto Climate Control

Cruise Control

Touch Screen Infotainment system

Leather covered steering wheel

Rear cargo package with additional n12v socket.

Rear interior light

Flat-floor luggage box

Further, the all to familure Rhino returns, which is a kit including Rhino logomark, Rhino decals, Rhino-branded soft spare wheel cover, Suzuki Heritage grille, Red Suzuki mud flaps, and Rain and wind deflectors.

In closing the model which is the most globally recognised in the Suzuki line-up the Jimny will be more readily available in SA to meet the growing demand.
